With a checkmark of your pencil, you can make Iowa a more beautiful state. Again this year, you have an opportunity to participate in the Keep Iowa Beautiful (KIB) state income tax checkoff program. By marking the appropriate box on your state income tax return and filling in a dollar amount, your money will go toward state beautification projects. You can either designate part of your state tax refund for this initiative, or if you owe taxes, add the amount you wish to contribute. If you have a professional prepare your tax return, ask them to check the KIB box for you.

Iowans donated $57,643 in 2001, $63,054 in 2002, $67,423 in 2003, $58,103 in 2004, $52,105 in 2005 and $52,039 in 2006 to the Keep Iowa Beautiful income tax checkoff program. Your donation is also tax-deductible. Specifically, the funds that result from the checkoff will be distributed in the following manner:

  • Seventy percent will be dedicated toward community beautification projects.
  • Thirty percent will be invested in statewide Keep Iowa Beautiful initiatives.
  • For tax forms, contact Iowa Department of Revenue and Finance.
