This was the sixth and last year KIB provided funds to local communities for beautification efforts through the Iowa Income Tax Check-Off program. More than $300,000 in funding was provided over the past six years.

In March 2009, the Iowa DOT announced that nine Iowa communiteis or nonprofit organizations were awarded funds from this program.  Seveny percent of the $29,510 genereated in the 2007 tax year was allocated to local beautification efforts and 30 percent to KIB's statewide initiatives.  Applications totaling $67,777 were received this year.

The following groups received funding:

  • Charles City Area Chamber of Commerce - $2,500
  • Greenfield Chamber/Main Street - $2,800
  • Hamilton County Agricultural Extension District - $850
  • Iowa Whitewater Coalition Inc. - $2,000
  • City of Kellogg - $2,500
  • Red Oak Optimist Club and Rotary Club - $2,812
  • River Action Inc. - $2,500
  • City of Sioux City - $3,000
  • Winneshiek County Soil and Water Conservation District - $1,696
